When using Mailmeteor to send emails, in some (rare) situation, you might get notified the delivery failed while it’s considered as sent in Mailmeteor. Here’s why this happens and how Mailmeteor handles such cases.
Understanding how email works
When you send via Mailmeteor, from a technical perspective, emails are sent from Gmail servers (not ours). And there’s a gap between when we tell Gmail to send the email and when it’s actually delivered.
The reason is that email is an asynchronous protocol (like mail). The sending server sends a request, and the recipient server will handle it when it has enough bandwidth to process it. One doesn’t necessarily wait for the other to confirm that the email is successfully delivered.
What to do then?
Mailmeteor offers a bounce detection system for Pro plan users. This system ensures that if an email fails to deliver, it is correctly reported as a bounce in your campaign metrics. With this feature:
- You’ll have visibility into undelivered emails.
- Your campaign performance metrics will stay accurate.
