When using Mailmeteor to send emails, you might encounter situations where Outlook marks an email as failed (while it’s status is sent in Mailmeteor). Here’s why this happens and how Mailmeteor handles such cases.

Understanding the Email Sending Process

Emails sent via Mailmeteor are technically dispatched from your Outlook servers, not ours. Once we instruct Outlook servers to send the emails, there’s a delay before they are fully delivered. This happens because:

  1. Email is Asynchronous: The sending server (Outlook) sends a request to the recipient server. The recipient server processes the email based on its bandwidth and availability.

  2. No Immediate Confirmation: The sending server doesn’t wait for the recipient server to confirm the delivery. This process creates a gap between when Mailmeteor initiates the email and when Outlook shows it as sent.

This asynchronous nature of email explains why your emails may not instantly appear as sent in Outlook.

How Mailmeteor Helps

Mailmeteor offers a bounce detection system for Pro plan users. This system ensures that if an email fails to deliver, it is correctly reported as a bounce in your campaign metrics. With this feature:

  • You’ll have visibility into undelivered emails.
  • Your campaign performance metrics will stay accurate.
