Gmailify and POP changes: what to do with your Mailmeteor senders
Google is removing Gmailify, POP mail fetching, and the ability to send from non-Google email addresses through Gmail. If you’ve connected an address from Yahoo or another provider to Gmail, then connected Gmail to Mailmeteor, you may need to update your sender.
You can keep using that email address in Mailmeteor by connecting its mail server directly.
What’s changing in Gmail?
Google is retiring three features:
- Gmailify: applies Gmail features, such as spam filtering and inbox categories, to an account hosted by another provider.
- Check mail from other accounts (POP): brings new emails from another mailbox into Gmail. POP is a way to download messages from a mail server.
- Send as for third-party accounts: lets you send from an address hosted outside Google, such as
[email protected], through your Gmail account.
Google’s Gmailify and POP announcement explains the receiving changes. Its third-party account announcement also covers sending.
When will this happen?
January 2027 is Google’s announced deadline for removing these features for existing users. New Gmailify and POP setups stopped being supported after the first quarter of 2026, and Google may restrict new third-party “Send as” setups during the transition. Check Google’s timeline for updates.
How can this affect my Mailmeteor sender?
For example, you may have added [email protected] to Gmail, enabled sending from that address, and connected your Gmail account to Mailmeteor. Your Mailmeteor sender uses Gmail to send as your Yahoo address.
Once Google removes that option, this sender will no longer be able to send from your Yahoo address through Gmail. You can still send emails to Yahoo recipients.
Reply detection may also be affected if replies only reach the connected Gmail inbox through POP or Gmailify. When that connection stops bringing in messages, Mailmeteor may no longer see those replies in Gmail.
How to keep sending with Mailmeteor
Connect the affected mailbox directly using Configure mail server:
- Open Senders in the Mailmeteor Dashboard and select the affected sender.
- Next to Email services, click +, then Configure mail server.
- Under Sending server, enter your provider’s SMTP settings. These tell Mailmeteor where to send your emails from.
- Under Reception server, enter your provider’s IMAP settings so Mailmeteor can detect replies and bounces.
- Click Save, then Done. If the sender has multiple services, set the mail server as its default service.
Our mail server setup guide includes settings for Yahoo Mail, OVH, Hostinger, and more. Yahoo requires an app password, which you generate in your Yahoo account settings to connect Mailmeteor.
Before your next campaign, send a small test to an inbox you control and reply to it. Check that the message comes from the right address and that Mailmeteor detects the reply.
Using Gmail, Google Workspace, Microsoft, or Zoho directly? Keep using your provider’s Sign in integration in Mailmeteor. For example, if you’ve connected an Outlook mailbox through Gmail, connect it directly with Microsoft’s Sign in option.
Do I need to change anything for a Gmail or Google Workspace sender?
No. These changes target accounts hosted outside Google. Google says Gmail-to-Gmail aliases, Google Workspace “Send as,” and Gmail API access remain supported. See what’s staying the same.
Will I lose emails already imported into Gmail?
No. Google says messages already imported will remain in Gmail. The change stops ongoing fetching from the other mailbox. See Google’s Gmailify and POP FAQ.
Can I just forward my Yahoo emails to Gmail?
Forwarding can keep incoming messages arriving in Gmail, but it doesn’t restore the ability to send as your Yahoo address through Gmail. Connect Yahoo directly to Mailmeteor to keep sending campaigns from that address.
