My campaign metrics show a 100% open rate
Indeed a 100% open rate seems too good to be true. Mailmeteor’s tracking technology works by adding a small image (called a 1x1 tracking pixel) at the bottom of each email you send. Every time someone opens your email, it downloads that small image, and Mailmeteor records that opening in its database. That’s how all email marketing platforms work.
But, some email providers aren’t keen on letting marketers track their users. So, they download all tracking pixels regardless of whether the user opens the mail. Also, some companies have antivirus software that looks for malicious content and downloads the tracking pixels. These automated systems led to inaccurate tracking reports in some cases.
If your contact list is small and very targeted (like a few people working at the same companies), you might not have good results from the tracking system. On the other side, if you send to thousands of people (like for a newsletter) all having different email providers (Gmail, Outlook, etc.) by the law of statistics, you will reach a great estimation of your campaign’s impact.
Mailmeteor has built-in algorithms to remove bots and automated systems from your tracking events. By default, it records all user interactions, including those with privacy protections, while filtering out known bots. If you prefer, you can update this setting to record only direct human interactions, explicitly excluding all automated systems.
