How to prevent self-opens from being tracked?

When using Mailmeteor for your email campaigns, it’s important to ensure that only genuine recipient opens are tracked. However, you might notice that when you open your own emails, whether from the BCC field, the “Sent” folder, or any other instance of your email, these actions are incorrectly recorded as opens in your Mailmeteor statistics. This can skew your campaign metrics.

To prevent all types of self-opens from being tracked, you can install Mailmeteor for Gmail (available in Google Chrome). This extension is designed to help users manage their email campaigns more efficiently by preventing self-opens from being tracked. Here’s how you can install it:

  1. Open the Mailmeteor listing page on the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Click on “Add to Chrome”.
  3. Follow the prompts to install the extension.

Once installed, the extension will automatically recognize when you, as the sender, open an email in Gmail’s web interface, including BCC’d emails, emails in the “Sent” folder, and other self-opens. It will then prevent these actions from being recorded as an open in your Mailmeteor statistics.

Please note the extension only prevents tracking within the Chrome browser. Opens from other devices, such as mobile phones or desktop email clients, might still be tracked. To avoid this, try to limit checking campaign emails to your Chrome browser where the extension is installed.
