It’s been a few months since we didn’t speak about our email verification service, that now verifies millions of emails per month. That’s why we’re excited to share that we’ve made it smarter.
Valid, invalid, risky, or unknown?
Until now, email addresses in Mailmeteor were marked as either valid or invalid - a straightforward approach, but sometimes you need a bit more nuance to truly understand what’s happening behind the scenes. That’s where our brand-new statuses come in.
Here’s what each status means for you:
✅ Valid — It’s safe to send emails to this address. Everything checks out, and your email is likely to land where it’s supposed to.
❌ Invalid — This address doesn’t exist, either because it’s malformed, or the mail server confirmed it’s not valid.
⚠️ Risky — The email address exists, but it might not be safe to send to it. For example, it’s from a known disposable or temporary email provider.
❓ Unknown — We’ve checked everything we can, but couldn’t fully confirm the address exists. This often happens with catch-all domains that accept any email but don’t confirm if the mailbox actually exists.

These new statuses have been rolled out across all our products:
