Questions & answers about email finder
Here are some frequently asked questions (FAQs) about finding professional email addresses.
What is an email finder?
An email finder is a tool that locates someone’s professional email address based on public signals — their name, employer, company domain, and known email patterns. It’s the fastest way to get in touch with decision-makers when you don’t have their contact details.
How does Mailmeteor's Email Finder work?
We combine three signals to find the right address. (1) We test the most common email patterns for the company (firstname.lastname@, f.lastname@, firstname@, etc.). (2) We verify each candidate in real time via SMTP. (3) We cross-reference public databases and profiles. The tool returns the best match, not a pile of guesses.
How accurate is it?
We deliver 97%+ accuracy for active professional emails at companies with standardized patterns. Accuracy can drop for very small companies, freelancers with custom setups, or people who recently changed jobs. The tool labels each result as Valid, Risky, or Not Found so you always know what you’re dealing with.
What do I need to run a search?
Just two pieces of information:
- The person’s full name (first and last)
- Their company domain (e.g.,
stripe.com)
If you don’t know the domain, grab it from the company’s website or LinkedIn “About” page.
What email patterns do you test?
Our algorithm tests the most common professional formats, including:
[email protected][email protected][email protected][email protected],[email protected][email protected],[email protected]
It also adapts to patterns already observed at the company — so results improve as we learn more about each domain.
Can I find personal Gmail, Yahoo, or Outlook emails?
No — the Email Finder is built for business email addresses on company domains. For personal addresses, try our Reverse Email Lookup or LinkedIn Email Finder instead.
Is finding someone's email legal?
Yes, when done for legitimate business purposes and compliant with local laws (GDPR in the EU, CAN-SPAM in the US, CASL in Canada). Use found emails responsibly — personalize, offer real value, and honor opt-outs. Don’t use email finders for harassment, scraping, or unsolicited bulk sending.
Why didn't the tool find an email?
Possible reasons include a unique company format, a very small team with no observable pattern, the person using an alias or role-based address, or privacy settings at the mail provider. Try variations of the name (nicknames, middle names) or fall back to the LinkedIn Email Finder.
Should I verify the email before sending?
Our Email Finder already runs SMTP verification — but for high-stakes outreach (large campaigns, executive contacts, lists older than 90 days), pass the address through Email Checker for a second pass and catch-all detection.
What does "Risky" mean next to a result?
A risky result usually means one of two things — the mailbox is on a catch-all domain (it accepts any address, so we can’t confirm the specific person reads it), or the SMTP server is rate-limiting our checks. You can still send, but expect a higher bounce rate than on “Valid” results.
Is the Email Finder free?
Yes — fully free for manual lookups. No sign-up, no credit card, no daily quota for individual use. Fair-use limits apply to block automated scraping.
Can I find emails in bulk?
This page is designed for single lookups. For lists of dozens or thousands, get in touch about Mailmeteor’s bulk enrichment API — it finds and verifies emails directly from a CSV or Google Sheet, complete with pattern learning per company.
Is my search data private?
Yes. Searches run in real time and aren’t stored, logged, or sold. We don’t notify the person you searched for, and we never share your queries.
