Hey there,
Ever heard of spam words?
They’re words (or expressions) that email service providers (such as Gmail or Outlook) see as red flags.
I’ve divided them into 5 categories:
- Urgency 🚨 – words that pressure recipients
- Shady 🔞 – ethically or legally questionable words
- Overpromise 🤩 – exaggerated claims
- Money 💰 – all things related to money in general
- Unnatural 💬 – words that don’t feel natural
How does it work?
To protect your inbox from unwanted messages, email service providers use something called “content filters”.
The idea behind these filters is that spammers often use the same vocabulary in their messages.
So email service providers scan the content of your emails. And if a message contains too many spam words? They block it.
But there’s one problem: A LOT of spam words (like “Free” or “Before it’s too late”) are pretty common in marketing emails.
So what should you do?
To help you navigate the spam filters, we’ve created a free spam word checker. You can use it to improve the spam score of your emails.
This tool will help you identify spam words (you can also check our list of 750+ words to avoid in emails) and remove them.
Don’t worry if your message still contains 1 or 2 spam words. Spam filters are evolving, and with AI, they can now understand the context of your emails.
